The Fostering Consultants

Welcome to The Fostering Consultants – an innovative service designed to improve and promote excellence within fostering services in the UK.

The Fostering Consultants have been working in social work for a combined total of 35 years. The past decade has been within fostering services, most recently across recruitment teams in two local authorities, modernising fostering recruitment, utilisation and retention.

We promote a creative and innovative culture, backed by a proven track record in enhancing performance and foster carer capacity, as well as delivering measurable financial benefits to service providers.

The Fostering Consultants have created and developed a unique “3R model” based on three core elements: Recruitment, Retention and Review.

This model provides a robust structure for evaluating fostering services; from fostering recruitment through to utilisation and retention of carers, as well as reviewing performance, policy and procedure.

We are committed to transforming fostering practices, helping your service achieve in an increasingly competitive market place.

Our strategies significantly improve placement choice and matching for the UK’s most vulnerable children, as well as ensuring successful placement stability in the long term.

CHANGING THE DIRECTION OF FOSTERING

The impact of shifting a culture within a fostering recruitment team will affect changes within the whole fostering service. This is why we also focus on the training and development of foster carers post-approval, and also the training and development of social workers and managers. We promote a culture that maximises matching, utilisation and retention, and this is where we’ve been successful in improving performance and enhancing in-house capacity with considerable financial benefits for the service.

The fostering stocktake made the observation that “much recruitment practice looks a little old fashioned”. In addition, the British Association of Adoption & Fostering (https://corambaaf.org.uk/) believes the current foster care system is in need of a radical overhaul in order to retain and recruit more foster carers. The fostering consultants support this view and have developed a model to transform fostering services.
